Two Ponds National Wildlife Refuge
Although it is one of the smallest refuges in the National system, the Two Ponds delivers a generous dose of creatures for the space. We saw birds and plants galore here in the past two days that we visited. The ponds were delightful to look at and populated with a pleasing variety of birds and flowering trees and bushes. In addition, from various locations within the refuge there were gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop! We saw numbers of new wildflowers including Western Blue Flax and others not yet identified. A beautiful black-crowned night heron flew up and away from the corner of the larger two ponds about 6 feet away from us. The sight of him was grand! The sounds of singing birds never left our ears during our visits. A lovely experience that we intend to repeat!
