For the love of wandering
West Elk Loop Scenic Byway
Oh the joy of spontaneous wanders that offer spectacular scenery. Like the West Elk Loop Scenic Byway. We started out to spend the first of Mark's days off doing a nice car trip to a new area of Colorado that we had not yet explored. The beauty was so captivating we just couldn't detach! We spent the night in Gunnison Colorado and from there the views just continued to keep coming and coming; starting with a royal pair of Bald Eagles almost immediately after beginning the loop, then through the Gunnison Black Canyon, detours to charming Marble and Redstone Colorado, and ending at Carbondale Colorado and the spectacular Mt. Sopris. Finally after 646 miles under our tires in two days we were ready to go home. The promise of spring showed itself in early budding trees. Blankets of winter Aspens made for tantalizing speculation on the fall views to be had here. Wow!! Does it need to be said we will return, er....nah, we won't say it!! This gallery has a number of panoramas and grand views. It will be best seen in slideshow mode. Click the screen to set your own pace. Enjoy as much as we did!!
