Snorkel at Black Rock
Not far past Lahina, on Maui, is a sweet little cove. The sandy beach comes to an end in a gently curving arc at a wall lined with rocks. Black Rocks. The wall above ground extends into the bay, offering shelter for fish and invertebrates. This creates well reputed conditions for fish watching.
Approximately 10 snorkelers were in the water as Eric and I arrived. They were thrilled to see a small sea turtle swimming close to shore. Sadly, conditions were not good. It was very windy, with a lot of rainfall the previous day. The visability was poor, obscured by an evenly dispersed cloud of haze in the water.
OH, but how GOOD it was to be back in a salty fluid, fins on eager feet, mask snug around wide open eyes, and air tube reaching for the sky. Eric and I hit the liquid like we had never left it. Even the poor visability couldn't dampen our pleasure at being in the water. The photos are the best that could be done in the circumstances.
Enjoy, as we did!
