Grand Coulee Dam - 2006
Wrapping up our Canadian motorcycle trip in 2006, this visit was a mixed bag of feelings. The dam was interesting, and the surrounding area beautiful. BUT we didn't want our trip to end!! Thoughts of returning to work, after 2 weeks of unlimited exploring, was a resigned capitulation of our spirits to the inevitable. Even so, our visit to this new area of Washington capped off the trip wonderfully. Also helping us feel better was knowing our two years of long distance relationship was nearing an end, with beginning the combining our households. Lovely.
The original dam project was fraught with controversy over the design and goals of the dam. In the end U.S. president Franklin D. Roosevelt approved the effort of constructing a high dam modification which ultimately led to the dam as it operates today. The lake created by the dams construction is named for Roosevelt.
Primary goals of irrigation and power generation are still realized in the present.

A grand dam indeed. This panorama was created from 3 frames, merged with Photoshop.
