For the love of wandering
North Cascades Scenic Byway
It's been a long while since we visited the North Cascades National Park. We grabbed a quick weekend here in 2007 and always wanted to return. It's heading into fall season in October of 2021. Our first choice for a week of roaming was to head east for leaf peeping, always wanted to see the fall colors in the eastern part of the U.S. But with predictions of a flat season we decided to save our money and take a trip closer to home. Returning to the North Cascades National Park fit the bill nicely.
Packing up the RV for seven or eight days on the road was no small job but we got it done. The first issue made itself known. The weather in the park was predicted to be mixed snow and rain with lows in the high 20's. YIKES! That did NOT sound especially enjoyable for exploring outdoors. What to do?
Cue a detour! Taking the Coulee Corridor Scenic Byway through eastern washington was the perfect side trip.
When we entered the park the weather had cleared and warmed. In addition to the beauty of the scenic byway, we loved a couple of long hikes in very different terrain. We got a great feel for the park this time around. And gave ourselves pats on the back for never eating out once during the whole trip!
Savor the flavor of the North Cascades National Park. We look forward to more hiking here next year.
