Greyrock Trail #946 - Nov 1, 2008
What a marvelous hike this was! The views up top were spectacular!! The myriad of COLORS all along the trail were a constant delight to our eyes! Rated more difficult to most difficult, we found the hike easier going up than coming down, but not only because we were fresher. The steep decline was hard on the hips and knees - and worth every step. Our GPS recorded our total mileage at 6.83 round trip. The elevation gain was 2040 feet in little more than 3 miles!!
But oh, what rewards at the summit! Views of 360 degrees, a lovely meadow, a delicate little pond up top in a bowl-like depression, last bits of wildflowers still blooming and a very cool bird sighting; these enjoyable facets of the trail made the steep last half mile getting there completely worth the effort! This hike offers two routes to the summit. This time we took the shorter, steeper route. In the spring/summer of 2009 we will return to hike the meadow route (trail#947) for the wildflower season!
