Ramona Falls Loop - August 4, 2022
Ramona Falls Loop Trail is a pleasant hike through forest with a river crossing roughly a mile in, accompanied by a pretty view of Mt. Hood in the distance. While the Mt. Hood sighting is only for this short time during the hike the real payoff is the gorgeous Ramona Falls.
At 120' feet tall and spreading in a beautiful fan of cascades all the way down the falls were a perfect spot to take a stop for lunch and soak it all in for a spell. The roaring water, mist in the air, and plentiful shade was the perfect soothing stopping point to cool down from the heated summer day. There were a surprising number of hikers at the falls for a weekday but folks were both mellow and friendly. Many people were taking their lunch with Ramona, as we were, but there was not a speck of trash around to tell the story. Most heartening.
Our steps this hike tallied in at 7.3 miles with 1066' elevation gain, making this an easy to moderate hike accompanied by deep blue skies and lovely white clouds.
After departing the falls the loop took us past a burbling meandering creek for much of the way back. The forest was more lush here and we both agreed that if we hike the trail again we'll do the creek portion out and back. It was delightful.
For those who relish their waterfalls, this hike is for you!
