Silent Creek Trail - Umpqua National Forest - Oregon
Day 3 of Family Campout at Toketee Campground finds us exploring a small waterfall trail with the gang, then heading out on our own for some solo exploring.
It's mid summer and a beautiful day out. A quick stop at a ranger station pointed us towards Silent Creek Trail #1479. An easy peasy 2 level miles out and back trail, this was the perfect little hike to enjoy a half day of solo time during our family campout.
The creek flowed along it's mellow course with the trail taking us closer and sometimes father from it's banks. True to it's name the creek was dead silent. A cool surprise were the multitudes of wildflowers we saw. Many monkey flowers and species of asters not only graced it's banks but grew on baby islands and fallen trees smack in the middle and edges of the creek. This was a hike of yellows and golds warming the eyes throughout. We also saw lupine, flax, penstemon, lilies, little pink elephants, and orchids. Nice wildflower hike.
We were restless with riding in the car. The Silent Creek Trail could not have been a more perfect antidote, and a nice change of pace to the many waterfall hikes the area has to offer.
Do go if you can during this time of year!
