Umpqua Hot Springs - via Tokette Campground - Oregon
We're number ONE...to arrive at the Tokette Campground that is. The family gets here later today - son, daughter, daughter-in-law, grandson, and two granddaughters. THIS IS GONNA BE FUN!! It's been a long drive getting here. The RV is set up in our campsite and ready to go. What could be better than a nice long hike up to the hot springs!
The trail to the hot springs is the long way round, compared to the .3 mile walk from a parking lot to reach the springs. With the trailhead not far from our campsite at the campground, this was the perfect trek to stretch our legs. Our total distance came in at 9.75 miles with 2'000' elevation gain. This section of trail is part of a 12 segment system totaling 79 miles.
The trail is a pleasant forest walk gaining elevation gradually until reaching a final distinct upward trek to the springs. We enjoyed a number of wildflower species, mostly old friends that we recognized from many previous hikes. The day was warm and dry if a bit on the warm side for a 2k gain in elevation.
The hot springs were well populated! There was only one naked soaker who added the pungent smell of pot to the air. We enjoyed hearing about the journey of 3 young women from Texas who were thrilled to visit the forest.
We finished up the hike to find half of our group arrived and settled in! What a fine day and lovely hike!
